December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. It is a time to spread awareness about the extreme dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol and to work to eradicate this disastrous issue through outreach and education.

In 2013, President Barack Obama proclaimed December as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month and urged all American Citizens to “drive sober, buckle-up, and avoid distractions while driving.” In regards to alcohol and drug usage, he also implored us all to “to designate a non-drinking driver, plan ahead for alternative transportation, or make arrangements to stay with family and friends before consuming alcohol.” This is extremely important advocacy, considering 1 in 3 of all deaths from motor vehicle crashes, in the US, involve an impaired driver.

Drunk and drugged driving prevention should be practiced all year round, but December is an especially appropriate time for the month-long observance because of the staggering number of impaired driving accidents that happen during that particular month. In December of 2012, 830 people were killed on American roadways, in drunk driving incidents. There is no doubt that holiday celebration, traffic and even stress all play a role in the increased number of tragic accidents.

During National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, everyone is encouraged to play a role in not only keeping the roads safe, but helping to educate everyone, youths and otherwise, about the importance of not getting behind the wheel while under the influence.

One way to get involved with your community, school, business or organization is with Impaired Driving Prevention Month educational products.  Distribution of products such as these provide crucial information and key points on impaired driving and also help to reinforce the incredibly significant message about avoiding impaired driving and staying alert behind the wheel. Everyone can help to make a difference, and at Foremost Promotions, we have the products to help make an impact.
